In the city of Birmingham the two largest sectors of employment are education and healthcare, this course would give you the chance to work within these sectors.
This course will give you the opportunity to study areas of Science that are directly related to the workplace. You will study areas of Science that will give you the knowledge and skills to apply for jobs related to healthcare, manufacturing industry and education.
The course is a two year course which comprises of 6 Units of work (3 in year 12 and 3 in year 13).
You are expected to demonstrate A level style skills to complete this course. You will need to apply practical and written approaches to work and be able to work to a deadline for each assignment within the units.
There will be a range of different activities throughout the course. You will be expected to construct reports from practical’s that you take part in during lessons, and also from research you collect about subjects you study. You will also make models during the course of things like Eukaryotic cells. You may be expected to design and present information to the rest of the class on a subject you are studying. Applied Science, like Science at KS4 is a practical subject, so you should expect this from lessons.

BTEC SCIENCE AT A MERIT OR ABOVE
There are no examinations, currently the course is assessed internally by course teachers. Students work is picked at random to be internally verified which gives the school a standard of work to aspire to. Work will be sampled externally by the exam board.
